BiGiAM Management & The Latest Organisation are delighted to be hosting an official Alternative Great Escape showcase performance by Fridolijn at the Latest Musicbar in Brighton at 9.30pm on Wednesday 17th May, on the eve of the Great Escape Festival in Brighton. Fridolijn (pronounced 'Free-Doe-Line') blurs the boundaries between cinematic folk, singer-songwriter, jazz, electronica and broken beats, which blend to produce compellingly beautiful and haunting songs. The debut album of the previous band she led, Finn Silver, reached top chart positions in Holland and Japan, and her impressive CV already includes playing the prestigious North Sea Jazz Festival, i-tunes hailing her as ‘New Jazz Artist of the Year, and, more recently, her debut solo album 'Catching Currents' being released by (major label) V2 in Netherlands, from which the opening song 'Frame This'has attracted nearly 900k Spotify plays and rising.
Fridolijn has also performed with the likes of (MOBO winners) Kairos 4tet, guitarist Stuart McCallum (Cinematic Orchestra) and Richard Spaven (Jose James, Flying Lotus, Jordan Rakei).
Fridolijn comes from the same generation as Becca Stevens, Gretchen Parlato, Esperanza Spalding, Lianne LaHavas and Nai Palm (Hiatus Kaiyote). Strong, young female vocalists, who have in common that their rich harmonic sense and lush rythmic pallet are a strong core to their music. Although she has, at times, also occasioned comparisons with acts as diverse as Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell, or Massive Attack the reality is Fridolijn is very much a singular voice with her own, very compelling, artistic vision.
This is a rare chance for UK folk to witness her perform under intimate conditions in a noted venue, renowned for it's ambience and sound.

Sommige artiesten grijpen je bij de eerste luisterbeurt direct bij de keel. Andere artiesten nemen een omweg. Die tasten af, zetten je even op het verkeerde been en wandelen bij de tweede of derde luisterbeurt rechtstreeks je hart binnen om zich daar langdurig te nestelen. Zangeres en liedjesschrijfster Fridolijn valt in die laatste categorie. Haar album Catching Currents, dat eind 2015 uitkwam op V2 Records, is niet onopgemerkt gebleven. Het openingsnummer Frame This groeit gestaag richting de één miljoen Spotify streams en aankomende zomer speelt Fridolijn in het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
Tijdens Record Store Day, op zaterdag 22 april, komt Catching Currents uit op doorzichtig vinyl. Speciaal voor al die mensen bij wie Fridolijn het hart is binnen gewandeld. Het vinyl is een uitgave van Miller Records in samenwerking met V2 Records en Fridolijn. Eric Molenaar van Miller Records: “Catching Currents is simpelweg één van de mooiste debuutalbums van Nederlandse bodem. Dit soort talent moet men koesteren. Muzikaal en tekstueel sterk in een genre wat in mijn ogen te weinig aandacht geniet in Nederland. Dit album is tijdloos en zal over twintig jaar nog steeds stevig overeind staan. Reden genoeg om deze prachtplaat, in samenwerking met Fridolijn en V2 Records, op vinyl uit te brengen.”
Om de vinyl release te vieren zal Fridolijn met Yorick van Norden en Grey Lotus op 21 en 23 april onder de noemer Miller Records Presents optreden in kleine bezetting. Op 14 juli is Fridolijn met haar band te zien in het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
