BiG I AM management is delighted to announce new signing Fridolijn, whose debut single Frame This ( V2 Records) has recently reached 1 million plays on Spotify.

Fridolijn (pronounced 'Free-doe-Line') blurs the boundaries between cinematic folk, singer-songwriter, jazz, electronica, and broken beats, which blend to produce compellingly beautiful and haunting songs.

Although a fresh new artist, Fridolijn's impressive CV already includes playing the prestigious North Sea Jazz Festival, i-tunes hailing her as ‘New Jazz Artist of the Year', and performing with the likes of (MOBO winners) Kairos 4tet, Stuart McCallum (guitarist of the Cinematic Orchestra) and drummer Richard Spaven (Jose James / Flying Lotus) demonstrating her pedigree as an emerging talent of enviable reputation.

BiG I AM director Mark Ede comments: “We are delighted to be able to bring the music of this exceptional and unique artist to the UK. Fridolijn comes from the same generation as Becca Stevens, Gretchen Parlato, Esperanza Spalding, Lianne LaHavas and Nai Palm (Hiatus Kaiyote). Strong, young female vocalists, who have in common that their rich harmonic and melodic sense, together with a lush rhythmic pallet are a strong core to their music. Although she has at times occasioned comparisons in the press with the likes of Joni Mitchell and Portishead, in reality Fridolijn is very much a singular voice with her own, compelling, artistic vision.”

Fridolijn behaalt 1 miljoen streams op Spotify en tekent management contract in Engeland.

Single 'Frame This', openingstrack van Fridolijn's debuut album 'Catching Currents' (V2 Records) werd opgepikt door Spotify Frankrijk, wat het op een aantal grote playlists plaatste. De afgelopen maanden groeide het aantal speelbeurten gestaag, wat vorige week leidde tot het doorbreken van de magische grens van 1 miljoen. Zangeres Fridolijn, die haar tijd momenteel verdeelt tussen Amsterdam en Londen speelde met haar band Finn Silver eerder al op het North Sea Jazz Festival, behaalde een nummer 1 notering in Japan en tourde met o.a. Britse jazzband Kairos 4tet, gitarist Stuart McCallum (Cinematic Orchestra), drummer Richard Spaven (Jose James / Flying Lotus) en pianist Gideon van Gelder. Deze zomer is ze te zien op o.a. Injazz en in het Concertgebouw.

Haar gestaag rijzende carrière bleef niet onopgemerkt in Engeland, waar ze onlangs een contract aangeboden kreeg door management bureau BiG I Am. Haar Britse manager Mark Ede licht toe: "We zijn heel enthousiast om de muziek van deze uitzonderlijke en unieke artiest naar Engeland te halen. Fridolijn is door de pers misschien vergeleken met Joni Mitchell of Portishead, en hoewel ze duidelijk past in de generatie van Laura Mvula, Hiatus Kaiyote, Becca Stevens en Lianne LaHavas is Fridolijn vooral een zeldzaam eigen artiest, met een aansprekende en geheel eigen artistieke visie."

Haar eerste introductie aan het Engelse publiek vond afgelopen woensdagavond plaats, met een succesvol optreden op het meest toonaangevende showcasefestival van Engeland, The Great Escape. De eerste optredens in Engeland zijn reeds bevestigd. Op 23 juni geeft Fridolijn een showcase concert in Nederland, tijdens Injazz Rotterdam. Verder is ze op 14 Juli te zien in het Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, in het kader van Robeco Summernights.
